What to expect during your appointment at Annika Bridal

We know that picking out your wedding dress is a big deal – believe us! Maybe you’ve dreamt about wedding dress shopping for as long as you can remember or adversely despise the thought of being the center of attention trying wedding gowns on in front of your friends and family. Whatever your initial thought process of going into wedding dress shopping is, we want to make sure you know what to expect and feel prepared during your 1.5 hour appointment at Annika Bridal!

Get excited – wedding dress shopping is so much fun and should be one of the most exciting decisions you make!

Having a fun and easy shopping experience with your closest friends and family is something we pride ourselves in. During your appointment, we’ll listen to you closely as you tell us how you want to look and feel on your wedding day and in your wedding gown. We will walk through the boutique and handpick (together) 4-6 gowns that represent the bride you want to be on your wedding day! Keep an open mind as your bridal stylist recommends certain styles and silhouettes! Some gowns look COMPLETELY different on the hanger than they do on your body.

We’ve rounded up a few tips to come prepared for your appointment at Annika Bridal:

Book early. Book an appointment online or by calling the boutique with a wedding date and venue in mind. Your wedding date, the time of year and weather will help determine the wedding gown you choose. We no longer accept walk in appointments. We want to make sure we have a consultant available to help you every step of the way in finding your dream wedding gown. You deserve one-on-one attention! Shopping early (8-10 months before your big day) will give you the largest selection of wedding gowns. Production time for special order gowns is between 4-6 months. (We know. We know! Good things take time, though.)

Bring (a few) of your best friends and family. It can be overwhelming to have too many opinions during your appointment. We recommend bringing the same, 2-4 of your closest friends or family members to each of your appointments. Think, the ones who offer you honest opinions that you trust! Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but this is your dress!

Be on time. We schedule appointment’s in 2 hour increments to ensure you have our undivided attention from the beginning to end of your private appointment.

Have a budget in mind. Our gowns start at $2,000 (with a handful at $1,500) and go up from there. It is important to know your realistic price point, rather than trying on gowns out of your price range. The last thing we want you to do is fall in love with something that is over budget. It also helps to stick to a range to narrow your focus on the fabulous gowns right around what you were hoping to spend! Also, alterations will be needed and are an additional cost to keep in mind.

Pictures are helpful. It's great to bring in any photos you have that may give you bridal inspiration. We also love when you show us your Pinterest board. (This will really help bring the whole vision together, and who doesn't love Pinterest?!) Photos of what you love help your Bridal Stylist understand what elements and details your are gravitating toward!

Keep an open mind. Remember that your Bridal Stylist is an expert, and has seen almost every gown on at least one person’s body. They will be able to recommend styles and silhouettes that may work best on your particular body type!

Bring proper undergarments. Nude undergarments give you the most accurate idea of how a gown will look. If you feel like your best self in shape wear, such as Spanx, bring them along! A strapless bra is helpful, but not necessarily needed. Most of the gowns can be worn braless, and typically bust cups are put in during alterations. Underwear is required to try on all gowns.

A few extras you may want to bring. A hair tie if you plan to wear your hair up, jewelry if you know you are going to wear it on your wedding day, the veil you may have inherited, and shoes if you want to visualize how you will walk in your gown.

Buy the size you measure in on the day of your purchase. We say it time and time again, but it is MUCH easier to take a gown in than to let a gown out during your alterations. We stock bridal sizes 8-12 for our sample gowns, however, with that said, we can order ANY size through our designers.

Every wedding gown needs alterations. We recommend scheduling your first alteration appointment 3 months prior to your wedding date with our preferred alteration experts. Be prepared to factor this in to the timing of your initial shopping appointment and into your final budget. Alterations are done by a wedding gown alterations expert and are an additional cost to your wedding gown. We can not quote an exact number but have found it typically ranges from $500-$800 depending on the dress and what you need done.

Trust your gut. There are many emotions that come with finding the dream gown that you get to stand next to your significant other in. A great thing to remember is, this is your day and your gown. Although you may not have any tears when you do choose a gown.. you should wear what makes you feel absolutely beautiful. We promise, when you find the right gown.. you will know!

Don’t be afraid to say YES during your first appointment! Again, when you know — you know!

We can't wait to find your perfect gown to compliment your type of wedding, body shape, and personality!
